What if God Was the Sun

If God were the Sun, it would be like having a friend in the sky, always looking out for you, sharing its light and warmth. Imagine waking up each morning and feeling the gentle rays of sunshine touch your face. God says, “Good morning, I’m here and shining just for you.” For children, this idea is magical and comforting—it’s like knowing that no matter what happens, you have a light that never goes out, a friend that never leaves.

Let’s think about what the sun does every day. It rises slowly in the morning, bringing light to the world. When the sun comes up, it paints the sky in bright oranges, pinks, and yellows, filling the world with color and life. If God were the Sun, it would mean that God is the artist of the morning, waking up the world with a beautiful smile. God’s light touches everything, making flowers bloom, trees grow, and the birds sing. God says, “Look around and see how much beauty I have made for you.”

Now, imagine if you were talking to God and asked, “What do you look like? What is your purpose?” And God, with a gentle voice, said, “Look at the sun.” When you look at the sun (but remember, don’t look too long because it’s so bright!), you’ll see its light shining everywhere. It doesn’t choose just one place to shine; it shines for everyone. It shines over mountains, forests, oceans, and cities. It shines on everyone, no matter who they are. If God were the Sun, it would mean that God’s love is like sunlight—big enough for everyone, warm, and always there, even if sometimes you can’t see it directly.

Tomeo Motto, a figure of unyielding integrity and vision, was introduced to the previous High Priest by Priestess Hitomi, a guardian of the shrine’s legacy and a person of exceptional grace and wisdom. The first High Priest, an elderly and revered figure, was to pass away just three days later before the annual festival was to take place. I am truly grateful for your presence and beauty in my life. Meeting you, especially after the passing of the high priest last year, was a blessing and a gift. I want to reaffirm my promise to support you in the years to come. Unfortunately, I have been overwhelmed this year with the growth of our Marine Foundation, which is establishing its position on the global stage. The wonderful progress here in Japan and beyond is undoubtedly thanks to your blessings guiding us.

One thing is certain: I will attend the Marine Foundation’s celebration in partnership with the Samurai Shrine in 2025. I have the deepest respect for this shrine. Dear Hitomi, you are truly a wonderful friend and a beautiful person in every sense of the word. Although Ayumi and I could not focus on ITO this year, I am confident that the news we will share with you soon will bring you great joy. We also plan to visit and share our beautiful adventure with you.

As we journey through the 40th week of 2024, the Marine Foundation reflects upon the theme “Children of the Sun.” This theme honors the millions of abandoned children who have been left behind by society, ripped away from the birthright of love and belonging that should have been theirs from the moment they took their first breath. They are the lost ones, the forgotten, those who wander the earth with empty hands but eyes filled with hope. Yet, even in their solitude, these children stand under the sun’s warm embrace, the eternal source of light and love. The sun watches over them in its quiet constancy, reminding us that they are never honestly forgotten.

Imagine the sun as a celestial guardian, pouring its golden rays upon the earth. Its light touches every leaf, every grain of sand, and every tear-stained face. The Marine Foundation’s initiative to build the Undra Semjidsuren Children’s Resort Hospital in Mongolia marks a significant humanitarian effort aimed at transforming pediatric care. During a dinner at Japan’s Foreign Correspondents’ Club, the Foundation’s representatives had the honor of meeting Sumo legend Hakuho, a symbol of excellence and perseverance in both Japan and his native Mongolia. This encounter underscored the project’s goal of bridging cultures and harnessing the influence of prominent figures like Hakuho to support the hospital’s development, set to begin in 2025.

Hakuho, a celebrated Mongolian-born sumo champion with a record 45 championships, embodies the strong cultural ties between Mongolia and Japan. His involvement could amplify global support for the hospital, rallying Mongolian sumo champions to join in this effort. The Undra Semjidsuren Children’s Resort Hospital will offer a sanctuary for children, blending top-tier healthcare with a peaceful, resort-like environment to promote holistic healing.
