… Five Counties Targeted

The Government of Liberia has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Marine Foundation and the Marinef Corporation for the construction of the long waited George Manneh Weah Millennium Sports Complex in Liberia.

Five counties have initially been targeted for the project.

Speaking Monday, October 22, 2018, in Monrovia, the Vice President of the Marine Foundation and Chairman of the Marinef Corporation Dr. Alhaji Alhussein O. Banao said the company chose Liberia long before the presidency of George Weah.

Dr. Banao indicated that the Sports Complex will be built in Montserrado, Nimba, Grand Bassa, Bong, and Grand Gedeh counties.

He said the complex when constructed will have 90,000 seats in Monsterrado, 40,000 seats in Nimba, 30,000 in Grand Bassa, 20,000 in Bong and 15,000 in Grand Gedeh respectively.

He also stated that the company is prepared to start the construction immediately after the provision of lands by the Liberian Government in the next 60 days.

“The George Manneh Weah Millennium Sports complex is going to be a comprehensive international sporting complex in the heart of Monrovia; the complex will breed sporting champions in the country,” Dr. Banao said.

Dr. Banao said the marine foundation has come to invest in economic growth through business investment, employment, and tourism; adding that the stadiums will also provide jobs for Liberian youth.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu expressed his gratitude to the Marine foundation and Marinef Corporation for choosing Liberia to enhance the idea of Africans on the continent.

Morlu said the company’s ability to deliver to Liberia and invest in the country cannot be overemphasized because it is a respectable institution around the world.

He pledged the party’s support to work with the company to support the government’s pro-poor agenda, indicating that when the project is implemented it will cement the legacy of President Weah.

For his part, Mr. Robert Quaye Dwuye Jr, Senior Economist at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning said the ministry supports the developmental goals of the company and will work with the company to ensure that the project is successful.

Ambassador Alhussein Banao, Marine Foundation’s Vice Chairman in the Economic and Diplomatic Sector, successfully leads the Foundation and Corporation to sign some 10 MOU’s with the Liberian Government. The first contract concerns the building of 5 major stadiums and sports facilities complexes, that will change the face of Liberia forever. 

Marine Foundation to construct 5 Stadia in Liberia


If all goes well, Liberia will shortly benefit from the construction of Five(5) modern Stadia which will boost the Country’s Sporting activities.

A Sporting Firm based in Japan, the Marine Foundation has promised to construct the Five(5) Stadia in five Counties in Liberia to help develop and improve the Country’s Soccer Games and other Stadium confines Olympics Sports.

The Five(5) Stadia will be built in Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bong, Nimba, and Grand Gedeh Counties according to the Marine Foundation.

The Marine Foundation and the Youth and Sports Ministry signed a Five Years MOU to ensure the Constructions of the Stadia in Liberia.

According to the Marine Foundation CEO, Alhaji Dr. Alhussein Banao, his Organization is providing the funds for the project, while Liberia ought to provide Land for the Constructions.

Alhaji Dr. Alhussein Banao said the Stadia will not only be used for Football Training but other Developmental Training for Youths involve in other Sports.

Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson signed the MOU on behave of Liberia.

Dr. Banao said they want to begin the project by April 2019 if the Lands are made available by the Liberian Government.

Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson who signed the MOU on behave of Liberia said Montserrado County will get a 90 thousand seating capacity Stadium, Nimba will get 40 thousand seating capacity, 30 thousand seating capacity for Grand Bassa County and 20 thousand seating capacity each for Bong and Grand Gedeh Counties.

The Minister added that Training Centers will be part of the Stadia to ensure Youths are given the necessary training to become great stars.

All eyes are now set on Authorities of the Counties to make the Land available for the construction of the Five(5) Stadia.
