In the coastal embrace of Ito City, nestled atop its highest hill, lies the Matsubara Hachiman Shrine, a place of profound history and enduring legacy. Constructed by a samurai over 800 years ago, this sacred site has watched over the people of Ito for centuries, its torii gates and sacred paths standing as silent witnesses to the passing of time. With a breathtaking 180-degree view of the sea from its summit, the shrine connects the heavens, the earth, and the water in a spiritual harmony that resonates through every stone and tree.

The story of the shrine and its more profound connection to the Marine Foundation began to unfold in 2023. Tomeo Motto, a figure of unyielding integrity and vision, was introduced to the previous High Priest by Priestess Hitomi, a guardian of the shrine’s legacy and a person of exceptional grace and wisdom. Their meeting, however, was shrouded in the bittersweetness of fate. The first High Priest, an elderly and revered figure, was to pass away just three days later before the annual festival was to take place. This encounter would be both an honor and a turning point for Tomeo.

In their brief yet profound meeting, the High Priest imparted his wisdom, the essence of the shrine’s spiritual heart, to Tomeo. He spoke of the samurai who built the shrine so many centuries ago—a warrior of impeccable honor and a protector of the people. This samurai, he explained, had sought not only to protect but to inspire a constant striving for perfection, a pursuit of balance between strength and humility. The High Priest believed this samurai’s spirit still lived within the shrine, guiding all who would honor its legacy.

Moved by this revelation, Tomeo pledged to the High Priest that he would bring the essence of the samurai’s spirit to the world through the Marine Foundation. He vowed to establish the Global Samurai brand, a tribute not only to the samurai of centuries past but also to the shrine itself—a symbol of strength, honor, and the pursuit of a noble cause. This promise would mark the beginning of a new chapter, not only for the shrine but also for the Marine Foundation’s global mission.

I am truly grateful for your presence and beauty in my life. Meeting you, especially after the passing of the high priest last year, was a blessing and a gift. I want to reaffirm my promise to support you in the years to come. Unfortunately, I have been overwhelmed this year with the growth of our Marine Foundation, which is establishing its position on the global stage. The wonderful progress here in Japan and beyond is undoubtedly thanks to your blessings guiding us.

One thing is certain: I will attend the Marine Foundation’s celebration in partnership with the Samurai Shrine in 2025. I have the deepest respect for this shrine. Dear Hitomi, you are truly a wonderful friend and a beautiful person in every sense of the word. Although Ayumi and I could not focus on ITO this year, I am confident that the news we will share with you soon will bring you great joy. We had been told that the mikoshi would no longer enter the sea, so we watched with deep appreciation, reluctant to close our eyes, and offered our gratitude to the sea deity. I was once again reminded of what it truly means for something to be “divine.” This was all thanks to your deep reverence and spiritual energy directed toward the shrine. I sincerely thank you.

A sobering truth is that in wars that defy reason, children, the epitome of innocence, are tragically lost. This harrowing reality brings into sharp focus our gratitude for the additional time we are fortunate to have. So, in this context, what would constitute a meaningful day if it were our last?

If I were to spend one final day on Earth, here is my perspective:

The pressing question is: What if we had only one more day to live? What would be the nature of our thoughts? For me, the initial focus would be on forgiveness. I would seek to find sunshine in every individual I encounter. Next, I would endeavor to realize all my unfulfilled dreams, allowing myself to imagine extraordinary feats, such as experiencing the triumph of scaling Mount Everest if it were on my list of ambitions. As the day transitioned into evening, my mind would be enveloped in thoughts of serenity, savoring the love that blossomed throughout the day, much like the rich hues of autumn. The night would serve as a period of rest, akin to hibernation, before awakening to a new world that awaits us all. This singular day would embody the essence of a thousand years, a testament to the depth and richness of life.

The Marine Foundation received an invitation to a special event on December 25th, celebrating its remarkable achievements over the past decade. This event marked a significant milestone in the Foundation’s journey towards becoming a globally recognized platform by 2024.

Interestingly, my invitation came as a pleasant surprise upon my return to Japan from an international trip, where I was engaged in discussions about the Foundation’s strategic positioning in a specific global region.

The evening’s highlight was the performance by the virtuoso pianist Arie Tomita, a member of a family that significantly supported the Marine Foundation in 2023. Arie and I collaborated on a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s classic, “My Way.” The event was further enlivened by the unexpected appearances of various guest musicians and performers, making it a memorable evening.

The event’s sponsorship was notably under the patronage of an anonymous benefactor, who preferred to maintain discretion during this period. This individual’s wish for privacy added an intriguing element to the occasion, while their generous support played a crucial role in the event’s success.

2024 Commitment

In addition, the development of the platform WIKINATION.COM is an exciting venture that will be undertaken by our talented IT group based in Guadeloupe. This platform is envisioned to be a pivotal tool in enhancing our outreach and operational efficiency.

Central to our mission for 2024 is the goal of achieving complete financial independence. This autonomy is crucial for our ability to respond promptly and effectively to emergency projects, particularly those aimed at alleviating the suffering of children who lack necessary care and attention.

Our dedication to financial self-sufficiency is not just a strategic objective; it’s a commitment to ensuring that every project, especially those in urgent need, receives the attention and resources it deserves. By achieving this level of independence, we can more effectively direct our efforts towards the most pressing challenges facing children, offering them relief and hope.
